SEASONAL HOMEMADE LIQUEURS : Nocino

Homemade liqueurs are a great way to preserve summer in a bottle with a kick! We will explore making simple infused liqueurs from local, seasonal fruit and herbs. There will be a sample tasting to inspire, and together we will create a walnut liqueur known as Nocino to infuse at home! Made from unripe green walnuts, Nocino is an aromatic, spiced, bittersweet liqueur. When walnuts are still soft in their green husks, before the shell has formed (late May through mid-June), they're cut open and combined with spices, spirits, and sugar. Left to stew in this slurry, and shaken from time to time, the liquid first becomes a bright chartreuse, then over time darkens until it becomes opaque black, at which point it's ready to drink (or pour over ice cream; or mix in a cocktail). Nocino is always a showstopper and a crowd pleaser; a novelty to crack open after a meal with friends.

Pin Loom Weaving - Workshop at Handcraft Studio School

Pin Looms are small frames with a series of pins set strategically around the circumference. Yarn is wound around the pins in a specified pattern (a sort-of warp) and then woven through (weft). You only have to weave through half as many times as on a normally warped loom, so it's fast. The finished piece of cloth has a finished selvage all the way around, so it can stand alone or easily be joined to other squares to make larger projects.
